Walk the Way Practical Info

Welcome to our Walk the Way. We can’t wait to share this journey with you!

Our pilgrimage takes us across Cornwall. North to south. Padstow to Helman Tor. Sleeping in sanctuaries, surrounded by other men going through the same ‘territory’. Together, we’ll explore spectacular Cornish coastlines, hidden valleys and ancient sites, while also exploring the terrain within.

Dates

Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th July 2026

Arrivals and departures

  • Arrivals: We will start to gather at 3.30pm for a 4pm start on the coast in Padstow.

  • Where to Meet: Trevethan Farm, Padstow PL28 8EL. It is also the same place as “Padstow Campsite”. The google pin is [here]. This is where you can park if you are driving or get a taxi to this location. This is where we will load up our things into the van (so you will only have a day bag for the walk on the first day, which is 3-4 miles).

  • Once your gear is loaded into the van, you can walk down to the estuary, meeting point is a little river beach [here].

  • There is not an obvious swimming place where we are meeting and once we have met as a group, we are going to start walking south. So if you would like some time to swim or be by the river, or would like some time in Padstow itself, please do this BEFORE we meet at 3.30pm.

  • Departures: We will finish at Helman Tor by 1pm and can arrange shared taxis either to Padstow (45 mins drive where cars will be parked) or Bodmin Parkway (the closest train station which is a 20 mins drive).

Travel

  • By car – We invite you to park your car in Padstow (aiming to be there at 3pm) on Thursday. The car will be parked here till Sunday, so please do not leave any valuables in your car. There will be a shared taxi from Helman Tor to Padstow (expect to be back there at 2pm on Sunday). The car park is [here]. It is £14 for the four days (and there is a camera for added security). Please book by bank transfer…. Account Number 69476112, Sort Code 608371, Starling Bank with Bank Reference p07 + your vehicle registration.

  • By public transport – For those taking the train, Bodmin Parkway is the closest station. We suggest getting a shared taxi at 2pm on Thursday to Padstow. The plan is to be back at Bodmin Parkway station by 1.30pm on the Sunday.

  • If you are running late on the day or need to contact us, please text or call our camp phone - 07754 204074.

Accommodation

  • In true pilgrimage style, we will be sleeping together in large communal spaces along the route - one village hall and two beautiful old churches. These sanctuaries are atmospheric, welcoming and full of character. You bring your own a sleeping bag and roll mat (which is transported each day in a support vehicle). These sanctuaries have toilets but not showers (so we suggest simple washing using a basin or rivers on route).

Kit list

So we have a support car that you can give anything you need for the evenings. All you need to bring with you on the walk is your day bag! And be aware that in Cornwall the weather can change very quickly from being calm and serine to extremely wild and stormy. So plan for all weathers and conditions to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

  • A piece of fabric that is meaningful for you (that we will tie together with others and walk with as a group)

  • Good walking shoes

  • Waterproof jacket (that really is waterproof!)

  • Waterproof trousers

  • Warm layers for the evening (fleeces etc.)

  • Hats (sun hat / woolly hat – depending on the weather)

  • Towel and swimming costume

  • A day bag / rucksack (enough to bring lunch, waterproofs, extra layers, etc) – with a waterproof cover.  It is also recommended that you pack your things into plastic bags as further protection against wetness.

  • Wrist watch (preferred) or other simple time keeping device that is not your phone. Please borrow one from friends or family if you don’t have your own.

  • Sun cream, environmentally friendly toiletries, anti-viral hand sanitiser

  • Earplugs & eyemask (if you're a light sleeper)

  • 2 x Water bottles (enough to take 2 litres of drinking water with you each day)

  • Bowl, mug and crockery

  • Torch / headtorch with working batteries

  • Lunch and snacks (see below) + Tupperware to put them in

  • Notebook & pen / pencil

  • Tweesers (for tick removal!)

  • Instrument(s) if you're musically inclined

  • All your camping stuff: sleeping bag, pillow, ground matt, etc.

  • Hot water bottle for the night (in case temperatures are low)

  • Blanket and (optional) cushion to sit on

  • You might think about bringing: a small first aid kit, blister plasters, walking poles.

Food and drink

  • All breakfasts + dinner on the first night is included.

  • BYO lunches (or buy on route) and options for reasonably priced dinners on nights two and three (£10-£15).

  • You might want to supplement meals with snacks you bring yourself.

Walking

  • Expect gentle walking (no more than about 10 miles per day).

  • Change in Nature’s outdoor insurance does not cover you for swimming in the sea. If you would like to swim, you do so at your own risk and we ask you to sign a disclaimer form (which we will provide and you can sign on our first day together).

Digital detox

  • One of the things that people find most beneficial about our retreats is the opportunity to enjoy a multi-day digital detox. We encourage you to get any last minute correspondence done before you arrive and switch off your phone. We also recognise that this is not possible for everyone (particularly those with caring responsibilities) and can explore what feels possible and good for you.

  • If you’d like to be contactable during our week together (e.g. in case of an emergency), please do share our camp phone number with friends or family – 07754 204074. The camp phone gets checked for text messages twice a day and is turned off over night.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
